Join the sustainable market with Vietnam Green Label

In recent years, the development of the sustainable market and the demand for eco-friendly products have been growing rapidly every day. To help ensure product quality and protect consumer health amid the huge number of green products, Vietnam Green Label was created. So what is this certification? Let’s find out in the following article.

What is the Vietnam Green Label?

Amidst the booming demand for eco-friendly products from consumers, ecolabels have emerged worldwide with the aim of verifying that products and services truly meet environmental standards. Each country has one or more ecolabel certification organizations with their own sets of standards. In Vietnam, we have the Vietnam Green Label.

This ecolabel certification was issued in 2009 under the National EcoLabeling Program by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE). Although it was established later than other international eco-organizations, the Vietnam Green Label has quickly established its position in the sustainable market and become an affiliate member of the Global Ecolabelling Network. In 2025, the Vietnam Green Label successfully expanded its certification scope to include eco-friendly transportation.

To obtain this certification, businesses must ensure the limited use of hazardous chemicals and maximize control over emissions not only during a specific phase but throughout the entire product lifecycle. Additionally, products must pass quality inspections and meet safety standards for consumer health. The product review process is transparent, clear, and reviewed by the Vietnam Environment Administration in accordance with the law.

Why is it necessary to obtain the Vietnam Green Label?

As it is a voluntary certification, businesses are not required to have the Green Label certification to operate in the Vietnamese market. However, an ecolabel certification brings many benefits to businesses, specifically:

  • Proving product quality: A product with this ecolabel must not only meet the strict environmental standards of ISO 14024 but also verify its environmental friendliness throughout its entire lifecycle. Therefore, having a label on product packaging helps consumers understand that product quality has been verified through a careful inspection process.
  • Market expansion: The Vietnam Green Label is an affiliate member of GEN. This means that possessing this certification increases a business’s credibility with domestic and international businesses and organizations. This makes it easier for businesses to expand their business markets.
  • Bridge to customers: As more and more green products and services emerge, consumers’ fear of greenwashing also increases. At this point, consumers tend to choose products with clear ecolabels, so having a green label on product packaging not only enhances credibility but also brings priority.
Certification criteria

For each different product category, the Vietnam green label will have different criteria published by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. However, in general, businesses still need to ensure they fully meet the following specific requirements:

  • Compliance with environmental protection and labor laws by organizations and individuals engaged in production and business (hereinafter referred to as businesses).
  • The environmental impact of the entire product lifecycle—from raw material extraction, production, distribution, use, and disposal—is less harmful to the environment than that of comparable products.
Conclusion

Although it is still a “newcomer” in the ecolabel market, the Vietnam green label is developing rapidly to help Vietnamese consumers find green products that meet quality standards. So, don’t hesitate to use products with this certification on your journey towards a sustainable lifestyle.
