A beauty-filled nature escape

Interview with Susan Noonan, general manager of the Amanoi

Q: This is your first Aman property, in your opinion what are some of the key unique points that differentiate the Aman brand from other brands?Aman resorts explore new destinations and choose stunning natural locations.
Architecturally, each resort is always unique, has outstanding facilities and is reflective of the local culture of the destination. Our room inventory is usually at the lower end of the scale 40 rooms or less.

Q: Why did Aman choose to manage the property at VinhHy Bay?
With several Aman resorts already in the neighboring countries, an Aman Resort in Vietnam seemed a perfect fit.  The Ninh Thuan Province and the location of VinhHy Bay was perfect, with its scenic coast line and beautiful beach. The opportunity to be immersed in Nui Chua National Park was particularly attractive.

Q: What are the “not-to-be-missed” guest experiences at Amanoi?
The Nui Chua National Park is one of Vietnam’s largest natural conservation sites and as such – trekking, is a must and snorkelling over the fringing coral reefs of VinhHy Bay viewing delicate stag horn corals, and a myriad tropical fish including triggerfish, should also be on the list.
Another experience is sailing by hobie cat or you can test your strength paddling around by kayak exploring the many interesting rock formations, secret inlet and hidden caves.
The Aman Spa of course is a destination unto itself, providing a serene setting for relaxation and rejuvenation. Set beside a lotus-filled lake, it enjoys a prime position on the property, surrounded by the National Park’s rolling hills. Facilities include five double treatment rooms, all with unique double bathtubs, private dressing areas and showers; two hydrotherapy suites; hand & foot therapy rooms; a hair & finishing salon where manicures and pedicures can be enjoyed. A number of relaxation lounges with tranquil views are ideal for taking time out before or after a treatment. The extensive Aman Spa menu offers body treatments, scrubs, wraps, facials and hair care using Aman Spa’s all-natural, chemical-free spa product range, complemented by traditional Vietnamese aromatic herbs, rice and coffee. Amanoi’s fitness options include a spacious, light-filled gym, a Pilates studio and the lakeside yoga pavilion.

Q: What are the key projects you will be working on over the next 6 month at Amanoi?
Being a relatively new resort, our key projects will be to continue to strengthen and develop our team of young enthusiastic employees to achieve their personal best.  Our Activity Team will be working on developing additional activities in collaboration with our local neighbours and the Nui Chua National Park Team.  In addition as the year round weather pattern of  Ninh Thuan Province is very stable, our Cuisine and Landscaping Team will work on the development of our own on site organic herb and vegetable garden.

Q: This is the first luxury property in the area and Nha Trang is at least two hours away. How do you recruit your team?  Do you have many staff from the immediate area?
Our philosophy is to develop the Aman family spirit in our resorts and therefore we like to engage and encourage local people by hosting career days within the local communities near the resort. Like many of our other Aman resorts – Amanoi hopes our team will be with us for many years to come.  By recruiting, hiring, training and developing our local team we also hope to improve their lifestyle.  Currently, the majority of our team comes from Phan Rang City, and VinhHy Village.
